I am generally interested in complex problems at the intersection of quantum physics, information theory, and mathematics — spanning areas such as quantum information theory, open quantum systems, quantum foundations, and quantum thermodynamics.

On a more personal (and culinary) note, I’m also navigating the complex challenge of British cuisine while maintaining a perpetual quest for Melbourne-level coffee.

Beyond research, I engage with literature, music, and the intersections of culture, politics, and philosophy. I also enjoy watching “boring” sports like cycling and cricket!

So far, during my undergrad and master’s, I’ve studied quantum billiards and work extraction in finite quantum systems. Now, during my PhD, I’m interested in quantum games as a way to explore processes with indefinite causal order and how these can be used to gain advantages in quantum computation and thermodynamics.

Other than that, I’m Brazilian, queer, and passionate about sports such as women’s football and tennis. I came to England to learn a lot of quantum information theory from the ManQS group and, in return, to teach the British how to properly support a football team in the stadium! My favourite writer (so far) is Elena Ferrante, and one song I consider truly genius is “A Nível De…” by João Bosco.

I’m interested in using optimisation and machine learning tools to solve complex problems. Before starting my PhD, I studied figures of merit for quantum channels by characterising their dynamics via semidefinite programming, and explored solving the shortest-vector problem with QAOA. Now, I’m working on integrating machine learning into the control of quantum process tensors.

Beyond research, I’m Taiwanese 🇹🇼 and love travelling and stepping out of my comfort zone — whether that’s learning crochet, skydiving 🪂 in Barcelona, or snorkelling 🤿 in Iceland. When I’m not working, you’ll find me doing yoga 🧘‍♂️ or recharging with boba tea 🧋. One day, I’ll create quantum boba tea!

One fun fact: since moving to the UK, I hardly have real conversations; mostly I just take turns complaining about the weather 🌦️.

I’m interested in topics lying at the interface between physics and philosophy. During my masters in complex systems, I studied the emergence of classical behaviour in a non-Markovian open quantum systems. In my PhD, I would like to learn more about quantum many-body physics, in the hopes of gaining a better understanding of the role memory plays in quantum stochastic processes.

When I’m not in the office, you can find me inside a dance class, reading in the park, or hiking on the mountains. My recipe for surviving long, cold nights in the UK is good company, boardgames and a nice dinner, which I make sure to spice appropriately. Even neutrinos have more flavours than fish and chips!
